Can you isolate which icon that is   ?     Put it in a better overall theme.

More or less make it permanent in /usr/share/icons somehow ?

I've changed icons occasionally  when I wanted a certain icon.
But the rest of the icon theme was OK.

Sometimes an icon is provided as a svg file and is not seen, then you can open it with inkscape and export it to png to solve the problem.

No, not yet. I've been trying to. The applet's displayed name doesn't match anything in /usr/share/applications/.

Sometimes an icon is provided as a svg file and is not seen, then you can open it with inkscape and export it to png to solve the problem.

It's not an svg image. After doing "cleanup" of what I thought were extra, unnecessary icon sets, another one disappeared from the qtpanel's system tray. Turns out it was from the Tango set. The one I already mentioned is from the Oxygen set. That leaves just one more showing in the system tray that is probably from Gnome's regular icon set. It's ClipIt, the clipboard manager. The icon shows up just fine in the system tray. It has a menu entry in Accessories that DID NOT show. I got around that by copying the desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications/ and editing the Icon= line.

Hello,

Before removing a file from the system, the command "dpkg -S /path/to/file" should tell you if a file belongs to a package and if so (it should!) it will let you know which one.

Then if you remove a full package, there should be no leftovers, but if there are some, they are shown in Synaptic, in the "Residual configs" category where you can find them and remove easily.

So removing icons from a set accidentally should not happen to you anymore. (where you formerly used to remove a lot manually? :)  )

Well, that's true. I knew most of that already. But, it presupposes that I already know which icons belong to an icon group. In this case, I didn't know ahead of time. Removing an icon set showed the obvious relationship.

About grub gfx and isolinux gfx, I have some information, but I am still looking for more knowledge. isolinux will need to be able to use source files from gfxboot-theme package (source package, plus gfxboot installed, and a related devel package). I don't know yet how to change the files in the source package, I hope to find someone who will teach that to me, because I didn't find any documentation.

Here is the Debian package for that:
http://packages.debian.org/en/source/wheezy/gfxboot-themes

Grub does not need anything else than a tool to help customize the files : I gave you the name, I think if you first grab the deb file for ubuntu and install it to Debian it has chances to work, then you will just have to copy the grub files of you box to your build directory if you use a chroot method, or leave it as is if you use remastersys.

Else than that, there are docs out there, and I think there is even a chan for grub2.
perhaps the tutorial here could be interesting: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub-2.html

IRC might be #grub on Freenode. I found the info on the web and didn't check.

Which one or the two gfxboot do you want to try first ?

And on the other hand, I found Gambas is packaged for Debian:
http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=gambas
Yes, gambas was already installed from the Debian repo. The packages installed are the latest versions in the repos.

BTW there are many packages related to Gambas and I have no idea which ones you need:

Well, that didn't work out too well. The first package in the series to build is gambas_runtime. It wouldn't build because libc6 is too old. I changed to the sid (unstable) repo and reloaded the package database. Still the same version of libc6.

In order to get the latest Gambase versions, I decided to do this instead.

The blade in the login window is the first thing I've ever done with GIMP. Just cropped and resized the original pic and set the background to transparent. Please let me know if you find any problems. I had forgotten to add flashplayer in the first respin.

Hello,

About flashplugin, does the version you installed read videos on machines having a cpu with no sse2 instruction ? (See my post about last OBUbuntu, I explained about the issue).

It's Adobe's version 11.2, supposedly the last version Linux will ever get from Adobe. I knew Adobe would no longer be supporting Linux, at all, but I did not know they had dropped support for the SSE2 instruction set early in the 11.x series.

I wish flash video would just die, already. It's way too CPU intensive for what it delivers. MP4 is so much better.

I was viewing some videos on youtube the other day, when I realized I could see them with Firefox and not with Midori. What is that ? Did I wonder. Well, lol, I had not flash installed, I was seeing videos in HTML5. :D

humm... just found this, will give it a try: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/youtube-html5-switch/

PS: that works ! I removed flashplugin-installer, and although at first glance a plugin is required, the second after the video plays ! :D

That will work with Firefox. But, what about alternate browsers, such as QtWeb and Qupzilla? I don't think they accept Firefox plugins. I'll have to look. If I remember right, YouTube is now converting all flash content to HTML5. But, not all sites do.
