PCLOS talking about Edu

Luikki has left a comment on my blog 10 days ago and pointed to a thread at the PCLinuxOS forum, I just saw his comment and answered.

I was trying to find an old 70' or 80's song which claims "bummer", but didn't find it so I changed my mind in the way.

Everybody's got to learn some time…

This attitude is why some of us went looking for a new home...

Do you mean Everybody's got to learn sometime?
When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.

what, disrespectful or changing the rules when it seems convenient to do so?

mimas: not really, I was looking for an sound which I remember, it has "bummer" in the song, is most probably a song of the 70's and I am unable to remember the rest. Anyhow your find for this one song is perfect!

Hi luikki,

The password is... "root" (without the quotes). As presented here:
http://meylodie.wordpress.com/2011/12/26/pclinuxos-education-en-2

thanks melodie!

but i'm unable to login as root at login screen.
selecting user "root" and password "root" gives:
"incorret username or password.letters must be typed in the correct case."

and i type in the correct case...

Hi,
Try user "root" and password "toor".

hi melodie!

installed pclinuxos edu to a flash drive and updated from pclinuxos new repositories
whitout breaking anything... except for pacmanfm (it isn't any longer available in the repos)
so, lost access to file manager and to desktops (water, fire, earth, air).
is there a way to correct this?

thanks

Hi,

I can see the latest pcmanfm in the PCLinuxOS repositories. ie:
http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.updates

pcmanfm-1.1.2-1pclos2013.i586.rpm

You need to check your sources.list (See here if needed: http://pclinuxoshelp.com/index.php/Choosing_the_Right_Repository )

This should fix your issue. :)

hi melodie!

i've this repo enabled:
http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/ pclinuxos/2010 main updates nonfree kde games xfce4

and it gives:

pcmanfm:

Package pcmanfm has no available version, but exists in the database.
This typically means that the package was mentioned in a dependency and never uploaded, has been obsoleted or is not available with the contents of sources.list

so, i'm stuck... out of ignorance of what to  do...

Hi,

Try these two commands in the console as root:
rm -rf /var/lib/rpm/__db*
rpm --rebuilddb
Once it gives the prompt back to you, in the same root console do:

apt-get update
and

apt-get install pcmanfm
Well if you are sure that the distro is fully up to date, of course. If not, after "apt-get update" you can also type "apt-get dist-upgrade" for a full update of the system.

Hopefully it should work. If not you could get the necessary packages directly from the repos, but not having the package manager working normally would be strange.
