QT Based Apps
« le: 14 mars 2013 à 04:31:37 »
Hope this works as I am on my iPad but I found this list of QT apps.

https://github.com/Razor-qt/razor-qt/wiki/3rd-party-applications

Maybe some of these will work.

Ah, that's what I was looking for last night. I made the mistake of searching Synaptic using the term "qt app". Didn't turn up much. So, I bookmarked the page you showed.

Some QT apps I'm trying -
  • Filemanager - qtFM
  • Browser - Qupzilla
  • Text editor - Juffed
qtFM works well and shows mounted devices as a bookmark.  It is also easy to write custom action as in Thunar.  Qupzilla seems to be coping with everything I'm throwing at it - occasional hiccup with resizing flash video in Youtube,  Juffed is lightning fast and has full formatting.

All three apps are available as .deb files.  I'm not having much luck installing QT4 apps from source.
What can go wrong !!!

I'll just point out that juffed text editor is available in the Debian repos.  It's probably the best small editor I have come across - not too big, full formatting and damned fast.  It has already replaced Geany on my system and on Scorpio - I'll probably go that way on the next VillageBox.

qtFM I have decided is a good idea that doesn't quite go the distance.  Thunar already does the heavy lifting regarding layout, styles, custom actions and mounting devices.  It also works in with Gigolo for networking.  At some point you just want something that works, and a FM is a pretty basic requirement.

Qupzilla I am still working with.  I think it may become default in Scorpio as it seems to tread a middle path between Firefox and Chromium.  So far it seems quite stable and predictable - that's all a good thing!!

But definitely - give juffed a go.  I did it with apt-get --no-install-recommends and it was only about 5 or 6 mb from memory.
What can go wrong !!!

I'm still using and evaluating the three apps you listed, qtFM, Qupzilla and Juffed.

Qupzilla and QtWeb are both contenders for web browsing. Both are fast and stable, even if lacking the features other web browsers already have. Fast and stable are as important to me as web privacy is. Right now, it's hard to choose a winner among the two, although Qupzilla is edging out QtWeb due to its ease of installation and better features. QtWeb is delivered as a single zipped file.

Juffed is definitely a fast and configurable text editor. I like it much more than Geany.

I'm also still evaluating qtFM versus SpaceFM. I know that SpaceFM is not a qt app, but it is better, to me, than PCManFM ever was. My only beef with Thunar is the gvfs network mount thing. To recap, after each login, the first time Thunar is called, it takes up to two minutes to appear. After it finally does appear, a copy appears about a minute later. It is "waiting", or something, on Gnome's virtual filesystem network mount to register. The behavior can be curtailed by editing the system file /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount (as root), and changing the AutoMount option from true to false. However, any system update to gvfs overwrites the changes to the config file, which necessitates having to make the change, once again. Or, living with Thunar's startup quirkiness. Unfortunately, this behavior from Thunar goes back a number of years.

Hi,

This is worth a reminder at bug reports there. I am almost sure others will have reported... if you are willing to check and to add comments or open a new bug... it will be here: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/

Really?.......I will have to take a look at that for sure. Is it in the repos/

Out of curiosity do you have Thunar autostarting as "thunar --daemon &"?

I don't know. I'll have to look at that. I'm basing it on stock Debian XFCE installs, as well as Scorpio_RC4 and your LinuxVillage.

I've looked at this on two different installations and one live CD. When I start Thunar, it's from a desktop file in a menu or desktop panel. Started that way, it is not started as a daemon. However, after logging in to the DebWeb respin, without starting Thunar at all, there is one instance of thunar --daemon running, launched by the user. Booting from the Village_RC-2_TEST_xz.iso to a live CD session, there are two instances of thunar --daemon running, launched by the user (debianbox).

In my 64bit Debian XFCE installation, there is one instance of Thunar --sm-client-id running, also launched by the user.

This is worth a reminder at bug reports there. I am almost sure others will have reported... if you are willing to check and to add comments or open a new bug... it will be here: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/

I'm looking at this XFCE bugzilla thread. It's been marked as RESOLVED FIXED, but I don't know.

I just got an idea : have you looked in /etc/xdg/autostart ?

PS: the thunar version at bugzilla is 1.2.1 and the current thunar version is 1.4.0. http://archive.xfce.org/xfce/4.10/src

which version are you working with ?

PS-2 : I am on the #xfce chan on Freenode. From your link to bugzilla:
Citer
Nick Schermer editbugs 2012-11-26 22:52:49 CET

Its implemented in a bunch of commits and nearly impossible to backport to 1.4.

so for now the answer to solve it would be backports, with a version 1.6 of Thunar, minimum.

I don't know exactly how that works and were is/are the sources.list for backports in Debian.

Yes, nothing there for thunar. Just policykit, etc.

Version 1.2.3, which is the version in wheezy/testing.

I don't know exactly how that works and were is/are the sources.list for backports in Debian.
Basically, backports are testing and unstable packages that have been ported to the stable branch. Squeeze is the current stable branch. Wheezy is the current testing branch. So, there are no backports for Wheezy. Once Wheezy is out of testing, it will be the new stable branch. If you specify "testing" in your sources list, you will stay within the testing branch, even when Wheezy becomes the new stable branch. If you specify "wheezy" in your sources list, your installation will become the new stable branch, once Wheezy is out of testing. The current branches are:

squeeze/stable
wheezy/testing
sid/unstable

Note that sid will always be the unstable branch.

That looks like the best way to go with updating Thunar. I'll try it out today.

NOTE: Craigevil's sources list is the most comprehensive there is. However, some of it is out of date. For example, the OzOS section for e17:

# OzOS | The Reality Different E17- http://www.cafelinux.org/OzOs/
#deb http://cafelinux.org/Downloads/oz-os hungrytiger main
#deb http://cafelinux.org/Downloads/oz-os tinwoodman main

The cafelinux.org site has been closed for at least two years now. It used to be the best way of getting e17 installed on Debian.

Maybe this is because no one uses E17!   ;D
