RC1 has been replaced by RC2. Links have been updated.

RC2 Notes:
1. Removed SpaceFM and installed QtFM as file manager.
2. Installed wbar for quick program launcher.
3. Fixed the transparency issues in conky. Not entirely happy with the colors, as brown looks like pink, due to the full transparency.
4. Removed all LXDE-type utilities.
5. Set xcompmgr to more "agressive" settings. Transparency, shadows and fading are all on by default.
6. Removed QtWeb and installed QupZilla as web browser. QtWeb was hanging on too many sites if any of the available options were enabled.

RC1 Notes:
Changed themes.
Removed LXpanel.
Removed PCManFM and installed SpaceFM as file manager.
Removed LXMusic and installed VLC as media player.
Added flashplayer plugin for web browser.
Added gigolo for mounting network shares.
Added volumeicon/alsamixergui.
Added conky display.
Fixed gaps in menus.

Based on: Debian wheezy netinstall - repositories changed to testing
Window manager: Openbox
Desktop environment: RazorQt
File manager: QtFM
Minimum RAM: 256MB (The Live to RAM option has been tested with 256MB of RAM.)
Kernel: Debian 3.2.0-4-686-pae

Instructions for setting your weather region are in the $HOME/Documents directory. The installed web browser is Qupzilla. It is a newly developed application with not many bells and whistles. Still, it works well, is fast and has low RAM requirements. You can download the iso and md5sum from the links below. Iso size is 638MB.

Hi,

* About icons, the one I found being the largest cover is Faenza, and I add Faenza Cupertino to have it blue. This is an option of course.

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Faenza?content=128143

http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Faenza-Cupertino?content=129008

I don't know if it is available directly in the Debian repos... it seems not.

* For Grub 2 you can try grub-customize:
https://launchpad.net/grub-customizer

* you can try the Archlinux ways to get better fonts for the whole system:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Font_Configuration

of course you may have to adapt some parts, perhaps the configuration files are not the same at Debian, some packages may have different names... well you know, this is the idea.

/Edit : about ppa, you can't use it directly but you can try getting the deb file and install it with "dpkg -i <package_name.deb>
start from here: https://launchpad.net/~nemh/+archive/gambas3

https://launchpad.net/~nemh/+archive/gambas3/+packages

once there:

Builds

v    amd64
v    armhf
v    i386

ie : i386
https://launchpad.net/~nemh/+archive/gambas3/+build/4322494

there you have the list and all the files built.

Tea looks like a cool little text editor, it is programmed in QT.

Also, are you going with Razor Cutie as a name instead of Katana? It's cool if you do, I will try and think of some new artwork then.

I had thought about doing it in Python but if iit has Gambas loaded in it then I will look at doing a QT version of my Conky manager for it.

@mel,

Thanks. I found grub-customize (too late) in an antiX repo. I'll try that. I'll look for Faenza icons, too. I think Debian has them.

@kona,

I forgot to add I deleted the menu button in the qtpanel. It was redundant. You can always put it back if you want it. The right-click Openbox menu has more entries than the Qt one.

Well, I have transparency working now, using xcompmgr.sh.

I spent some time looking for a simple application launcher. The qtpanel has an applet for it, but I guess it only works with Kwin. After looking at stuff like cairo-launcher, which pulls in a ton of dependencies, including mono, I decided to use the lxpanel already installed. However, if I try to use the transparency setting with lxpanel that works beautifully with LXDE, I get this:

Not very attractive. I made a white background image to use with lxpanel, instead. I think I have the screen blank fixed by creating a desktop file that uses xset to turn off the blanking.

Exactly. And that's where I run into trouble. I just installed the ppa you pointed to.

You see, there is no wheezy section in launchpad. So the update fails. And I end up doing add-apt-repository --remove ppa:nemh/gambas3. As far as getting a .deb file for Gambas, it was installed from a Debian repo. The installed packages are .debs, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I fear you don't understand what I was saying : don't use the repos, use the deb package generated by the launchpad server! (read my demonstration until the end).

BTW there are many packages related to Gambas and I have no idea which ones you need:

so ?

PS: From Gambas place, http://gambasdoc.org/help/doc/package?view

Citer
Debian    Debian packages for Sarge/Sid are made by José L. Redrejo.

Last version of Gambas packages for Debian sid are always available at the official Debian repositories.

Last version of gambas packages for Debian stable (or etch) are always available using apt-get, adding this line to the /etc/apt/sources.list file:

deb http://apt.linex.org/linex/gambas/stable/ ./

Important note: Etch users can not use gambas2-gb-gtk, gambas2 & gambas2-gb-gtk-svg packages due to the gtk version (2.8) available in Debian etch. If they want to use these packages there is a gtk-2.10 etch backport for available via apt-get using

deb http://apt.linex.org/linex/gtk-2.10/ ./

Okay, I'm working on it. I downloaded all the deb packages you pointed to. I added

deb http://apt.linex.org/linex/gambas/stable/ ./

to the sources list. When I do a Synaptic reload, I get the following:

Citer
W: GPG error: http://apt.linex.org ./ InRelease: File /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/apt.linex.org_linex_gambas_stable_._InRelease doesn't start with a clearsigned message
According to http://domains.googlesyndication.com, http://apt.linex.org/ is a parked domain.

More blue and nicer, different icons than gnome icons regular.

Hi,

So the info with the parked domain is outdated... anyhow that was for a stable release, and I believe you work with testing...

I will look forward to read about the Ubuntu packages, to know if they work in Debian testing.

and it might still be possible to mail José L. Redrejo <jredrejo AT edu DOT juntaextremadura DOT net> (saw his address at http://gambasdoc.org/help/doc/package?view in the Debian §)

gnome-brave brings in 16 MB, but gnome-colors pulls it in as well as 6 other packages, which makes 8!

All them bring in 31.8 MB.

It's probably not more than Faenza + Faenza Cuppertino though, and it might be an idea to give it a try.

I use gnome-brave,   it should have all the icons, you know.
The arrows are a medium blue color rather than white and
pointy as in the regular gnome.

Patrick and Melodie,

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still working on the icon thing, although Oxygen still fits the bill the best, so far. It comes down to one damn icon that is a removable media daemon and shows in the qtpanel. So far, only the Oxygen set will show it. With all other icon sets, it comes up invisible.

I've made no progress with the GRUB menu editing, so far. grub-customize only affects the GRUB menu shown when there is no graphic screen displayed in the GRUB menu. I think I can live with the way it is by rearranging the Katana sword position in the graphic. I haven't looked at BURG yet, and don't know if it allows editing the graphic mode GRUB display or not.
