Titre: OBUbuntu RC3 to RC6 are out
Posté par: melodie le 04 mars 2013 à 17:27:24
Hi,

This version RC3 will not bring much more compared to the former one, just updated, changed the desktop background and explored how to change the color for the splash in the live (which didn't work up to now : it has to be setup and compiled from source, so this will be part of the learning curve).

This version is 470 MB, less heavy than the former ones. However while removing packages, some icons don't show anymore in the menus. :)

You would have bet ?

and last : there will be a tarball ready to unpack, with the spin already installed to Virtualbox : perhaps konaexpress will have the opportunity to see it working by using this ready to use Vbox ?

Please see this post for information and links to get the RC versions 4 5 and 6:

That's a bit of extra work. Are you going to use the export appliance function in VBox?

Wow that will make a HUGE file if you do.

I had not noticed there was an export feature. I just zipped .Virtualbox and Virtualbox VM directories in a common zip, and ouste !

not that huge, could be worse...

You can have all here:

I'll seek for the export and import features tomorrow.

This (http://linuxvillage.net/index.php/topic,177.msg1101.html#msg1101) will explain both functions.

Thank you very much!

Installed in VBox with no problems.

The way you import this is a bit different but it is still easy.

I don't know if the normal way would not have provided a smaller package. Else, in Virtualbox I am not sure it is the best to provide feedback. It would be nice if some real machines would be used to see how it goes.

Now I do RC4, RC5, and RC6.

RC4 is the return of the former icons. Of course, updating is still a priority.

RC5 is the coming of a few apps, gxine, exaile, that kind.

RC6 will be the same as RC4 and RC5, plus some libreoffice packages. It's on test now and will be on a T30 (IBM laptop with 512 MB ram and processor Intel P4 with 1,84 Ghz, which boots on a 1.1 USB. :) )

Somewhere in the middle I added again update notifier and the Ubuntu software center (that helps the newbies very much to find apps they don't yet know about). I had an issue with error messages at the boot of the live : I solved it using the dirty way, I remove the file software-properties-gtk.desktop from /etc/xdg/autostart in the build directory. This is the program which is linked to update notifier and provides the gui configuration for the repositories, frequency of updates and such.

I'll probably upload them 3 soon, one after the other.

Hi,

From the smallest to the biggest:
http://tyruiop.eu/~melodie/Downloads/ISOS/Ubuntu (http://tyruiop.eu/~melodie/Downloads/ISOS/Ubuntu)

470 MB to 718 MB, the bigger has Libreoffice writer, calc, impress installed, the smaller has only Midori, Sakura, Geany, there are Synaptic, lftp, feh and so on... the one in the middle has no Libreoffice but has gxine, and a few additional programs for the user.

I'll try to make complete descriptions within a few days, perhaps not before the next week. Anyhow, I consider them not finished because some esthetic's needs to be worked on, but they should not have any major issue. This is why I would want to ask you to test them on real hardware, if you can, and bring feedback.

Thanks!
