Après avoir installé Bento Openbox, en double démarrage avec un Windows 7 home édition quasi inutilisable sur cette machine, j'ai eu une mauvaise surprise sur un simple réglage des icônes sur LXPanel : l'interface de réglage du panel se bloquait juste au moment de régler la taille des icônes. D'autres blocages ont/avaient lieu.

Une recherche m'amenait d'abord vers les problèmes de carte graphique, (Radeon HD 6290), et tous ces posts avec des conseils qui n'ont pas l'air de trop fonctionner. Ensuite, sachant que la carte graphique est intégrée au CPU, j'ai commencé à regarder ce que je pourrais faire avec cpufreqd cpufreq-utils, et quoi ajouter.

acpid est installé. J'ai ajouté mesa-vdpau-drivers (parce que ça ne me semblait pas une mauvaise idée), cpufreqd, cpufreq-utils, amd64-microcode, parce que c'est fait pour ce CPU, acpitool, mais je n'ai pas encore essayé de l'utiliser, supprimé at-spi2-core parce qu'il utilise un peu de CPU et n'est pas nécessaire, et là evince est parti, alors je l'ai remplacé par xpdf. (Parce qu'il n'y a pas d'autre choix léger).

Pour comprendre ce qui se passe vraiment, j'ai lancé htop à plusieurs reprises, tout en utilisant des programmes plus ou moins gourmands en ressources, tels que Synaptic, et encore plus gourmand, la Logithèque Ubuntu.

puis modifié à nouveau, parce que le CPU 1 était toujours à 100% quand un programme sollicitait ses ressources. J'ai voulu moduler, tout en permettant l'usage des commandes en console root ("cpufreq-set -c 1 -g powersave")

Il ne doit y en avoir qu'un pour tous les gouverner : « ondemand ».

Pour le desktop, c'est le seul sélecteur à utiliser car il réagit rapidement à la moindre sollicitation du système. Il induit une latence minimum comparé aux autres qui lissent la montée en puissance du CPU, donc allongent le temps entre la demande de puissance et la monté en puissance.

Le sélecteur « conservative » est une variante moins agressive de « ondemand », sur un desktop. Ce sélecteur revient à se mettre à courir avec des bottes en caoutchouc dans un champ boueux ; ça colle et on espère atteindre la fin du champ.

Mais attention, « ondemand » est le meilleur pour le bureau car on veut que l'ordinateur réagisse rapidement. Dans d'autres cas, on souhaitera peut-être maîtriser la consommation et éviter des pics, donc faire le choix d'autres sélecteurs ne priorisant pas la réactivité.

Effectivement, "ondemand" est le gagnant. Ce petit netbook (que je ne recommanderai à personne vu le processeur faiblard) fonctionne enfin normalement (sans se traîner comme un perdu, ce qu'il faisait déjà sous Windows).
